California couldn’t have sounded more appealing. Wednesday we had a huge snow storm in Colorado and to be leaving for sunny, California was perfectly timed! Alex and I jetted out late Wednesday for San Francisco (one of our FAVORITE cities)! (We of course were sportin’ our COLORADO FOODIE PRIDE…huge shout out to our 34* FRIENDS!
Alex and I had a SUPER exciting (and much anticipated) meeting on Friday…
…And then headed to Berkeley to enjoy the perfect day! After exploring up steap, windy roads, and enjoying the INCREDIBLE view, I headed to John Muir Elementary School to observe one of their Cooking Science Classes! Talk about best way to end my day…these little kiddos were adorable and their teacher, Mrs. Orth, was AWESOME!
The class focused on seasonal foods–with January having an emphasis on CITRUS! Mrs. Orth had a great lesson plan talking about the health benefits of citrus (Vitamin C, Fiber, Fructose) and then had the students develop their own soda by squeezing various citrus fruits and then adding soda water!
They then referred to charts for each fruit to put together nutritional call-outs for their soda label! (Totally awesome to observe!)
Cheers to sunshine, California, and healthy kids!
