Foodie Book Club is such a treat and has been a blast! The last book we read was Like Water for Chocolate, and the book we just finished was Julia Child’s My Life in France. This book captivated me in so many ways and truly inspired me to be better at writing/documenting all the wonderful things that Alex and I are experiencing through this journey. Julia’s vivid descriptions on various events through their time in France is remarkable. She was so meticulous and amazing as she developed into this incredible cook and began working on the cook book. It is so ironic to think about the 50s in the US and how majority of people were turning to processed foods and consuming more ‘white bread’ and ‘Twinkies’ while the French were focused on eating farm to table, shopping for fresh ingredients every day, and dedicating hours a day to preparing each meal.

The women in book club are so fabulous and a really eclectic group. There (of course) is amazing food, great wine, and wonderful conversations! It is a true highlight that I look forward to!

This book club I made Alex’s moms Cashew Butter Blossoms…

Be sure to try the recipe off our recipe page!!! They are my FAVORITE holiday cookies and simply to die for!

Tom’s Urban 24

If you know Denver, you know that Lodo (and more specifically Larimer Street) is pretty much the heart of Downtown Denver’s restaurant scene! This also happens to be the location of the *NEW* Downtown Hot Spot that is open 24 hours a day: Tom’s Urban 24! They say it best when they say that, “Tom’s Urban 24 is the only place on Larimer Square where you can get hand-crafted comfort food with an urban twist-whenever you want. Sourced with over 30 Colorado food companies and produce farmers, Tom’s Urban 24 offers the best of everything – breakfast, lunch, dinner, late night, epic cocktails, comfort food and good company.”

Well it just so happens, that the LOVE of Love Grown Foods is one of those 30 Colorado Food companies featured on their comfort-food/urban-twist menu!

When we were invited for a SNEAK PEEK of this fabulous eatery, we invited our close foodie friends Jen & Fred to join us! We got to try all sorts of things off the menu and enjoy the cozy, yet laid back atmosphere of this awesome, hip restaurant placed in a historic building of Denver!

And OF COURSE we had to order some LOVE off the menu! (Which was delicious!)

We also got to spend some time with Tom himself who showed us some of the drinks on the menu that have been drafted up by their very own mixologist!

Be sure to check out this new hip eatery downtown! It is FABULOUS! Order some LOVE and you must try the Bellinis! Plus, the doughnuts and pop tarts are delectable, and the omelets and burritos are scrumptious!

Happy eating!

Butter Sculpting

It’s been said, ‘When It Comes to Butter Carving, There’s No Margarine for Error.’ There are lots of perks of being in the food industry…having access to HUGE amounts of butter to sculpt being one of them! My dear friend, Janey, owns a fabulous company called Epicurean Butter. Janey also happens to be an incredible artist and is always finding fun art projects for Jen, another dear friend, and me to participate in. The most recent being BUTTER SCULPTING. I had never sculpted butter before and must admit my surprise to how much fun butter is to sculpt!

It is a combination of the smooth, wax-like texture and the fact that the butter heats up (we started with frozen blocks) so it is a constant evolution. Similar to clay, but instead of drying out your hands, your hands get greasy! It was TOTALLY FUN!

Janey was making Pumpkins (very fall-inspired) and Jen decided to make Swiss Cheese (which is fitting because of her company 34* Crackers…the perfect pair with cheese.)

My sculpture started off as a mug of hot cocoa…but as I began to work it morphed into a Hedge Hog and continued to morph to what it finally ended up as: a Polar Bear!

These two woman cease to amaze and inspire me. Our projects are always fun and creative and leave me refreshed and renewed. Having an outlet like this is so amazing…especially when the outcome is edible!
