Blog

So thinking back a year to my previous internship my breakfasts likely consisted of a big cup of coffee, a Pop-tart, and maybe an apple….on a “healthy” morning. I knew this wasn’t a healthy, balanced way to start my day, but like most of us Americans I opted for the convenient route. Unfortunately, the convenient choice usually resulted in a mid-morning crash that I overcame with another cup of coffee. Again, not the healthiest thing in the world, but it was the most available and convenient option. But NOT THIS YEAR!! I’m lucky enough this summer to be working a Love Grown Foods! The convenient choice in the office here is LOVE!

LOVE!!

Today I topped my Simply Oats off with some fresh strawberries, raspberries, and mixed it all in with Maple Brown Cow yogurt. Needless to say everyone in the office was jealous.. Maddy’s response was, “Blog about it!!” (which I obviously did). Dan’s response was, “Get out of the kitchen! We’re trying to film here…. OOO that looks good!” When I finally got to my seat and was ready to eat Johnny Boy! a.k.a “The Love Grenade” caught me off guard and almost swiped my breakfast!

Thankfully I caught him in the act and prevented the theft of my beloved LOVE!

My belly is now full, I’m energized with LOVE, and ready to ROCK IT in la casa de amor!

A Walk With A Doc LOVE!

This weekend, I had the great opportunity to serve breakfast to 100 fabulous walkers at A Walk With a Doc event in Denver.

For those of you unfamiliar with A Walk With A Doc, its is an amazing organization that organizes walks in parks around the country to teach people about physical health. It is inspiring and truly a great kickstart to change your life for the better, just a step at a time.

There mission:

“Our mission is to encourage healthy physical activity in people of all ages, and reverse the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle in order to improve the health and well-being of the country.”

Fantastic right!

I had the great opportunity to talk to some of the most lovely people at this walk. One woman really sticks out in my memory. Here is her Love Grown story…

She had not always lived in Denver, but her daughter did, so she would be here on holidays and birthdays to visit her family. On one of her visits she was walking around the Cherry Creek Farmers Market shopping with her daughter, when she met Maddy and Alex. She had a wonderful conversation with them and LOVED the LOVE. She bought a bag of every flavor.

Every time she would come back to Denver to visit her daughter, she would stock up on LOVE GROWN FOODS and bring them home with her. Her daughter would ask her what she wanted for her birthday this year, and she would respond, “LOVE GROWN FOODS!” without hesitation.

Thankfully now she lives in Denver so she doesn’t have to fly out to CO just go snag some love (even though its worth it), but she was extremely enthusiastic to talk to me and thanked me and Love Grown Foods for giving her this wonderful, healthy, and delicious product that she truly is in love with.

LOVED IT! I’ll never forget her!

This past Saturday, while most everyone was sound asleep, the traveling LOVE crew in Atlanta awoke at 3am to hit the road and head to the Muddy Buddy. For those of you who don’t know, the Muddy Buddy is an awesome event where teams of two traverse a 6-7 mile off road course with 5 obstacles which end with the infamous mud pit. The event aims to raise $2500 for the Challenged Athletes Foundation, which empowers individuals with physical challenges to find success in sports. With this money, it helps athletes afford these expensive prosthetics, allowing them to be active again. The event is loaded with energy, costumes, and teams out to have a fun time and raise money for such an important cause- Love Grown Foods was honored to be a part of it!!

After setting up our booth (in the dark!!) and preparing the mud pit, participants slowly started to gather in the expo area to check out the goodies. There was great music, fantastic people, and of course some yummy Love Grown parfaits to fuel the participants before and after the race. The event was early, which helped keep us cooler in the Atlanta heat but by 7:30 the costume contest had wrapped up and the teams were claiming their spots at the start line. The course looked like a blast- especially the part where the teams had to crawl on their hands and knees through the mud pit to the finish line!

Once the adults completed the race, the Mini Muddy Buddy took place, which allows kids as young as four to participate in a mini course- it was so cute to see these tots making way through the mud!!

The day was packed with loads of energy, muddy teams, and goofy costumes- plus, we successfully SPREAD THE LOVE to the thousand+ Muddy Buddy racers! What a great way to spend your Saturday. Help support this awesome cause and check to see if the Muddy Buddy is coming to a city near you!

With LOVE,
Becca

There is a certain flavor that I always seem to find in store-bought, boxed granolas. Maybe it’s due to the preservatives or the excessive amounts of added sugar. Or maybe it’s the fact that these granolas are made in a boring factory without love. For these reasons, I usually choose to make my own.

However, the granola made by Love Grown Foods seriously gives my homemade granola a run for its money. In fact, Love Grown granola tastes homemade itself. The lovely people over at Love Grown kindly sent me 4 different flavors to sample: Sweet Cranberry Pecan, Raisin Almond Crunch, Simply Oats, and Cocoa Goodness.

What I love about Love Grown:
  • There is no refined sugar or high fructose corn syrup in any of their products. Instead, they use agave and honey.
  • They don’t use any preservatives or artificial flavors.
  • This granola (unlike many) is gluten-free.
  • The granola is packaged in an adorable re-sealable bag to preserve freshness. (I really HATE boxes of cereal. They always dry out.)
  • Despite the fact that butter is not present in the ingredients, there is a magically buttery flavor in this granola that sets it apart.

I felt like a little kid on Christmas morning as I opened this package. Hooray for my first product review!

Flavors and favorites:
The “Sweet Cranberry Pecan” was my favorite. There is just something about that sweet, tangy cranberry flavor that gets me every time. I also love the fact that both the “Sweet Cranberry Pecan” and “Raisin Almond Crunch” come with unsweetend coconut flakes. Coconut flakes, nuts, dried fruit, honey, cinnamon…

Halfway through my bowl of granola, I literally began to wonder if Love Grown had tapped into my brain and created flavor combinations specifically meant for me. But that’s impossible…Right…?

The “Simply Oats” flavor was also delicious and [for lack of a better word] simple. It had the same base as the other flavors, minus the fancy additions like dried fruit and nuts. This would be a great one to pour over your yogurt and top with your own fresh fruit.

The “Cocoa Goodness” was my least favorite, only because I’m not a fan of chocolate in my cereal. I know, I know. Most of you are probably gasping at this blasphemy. And to those who do enjoy chocolate in their cereal, I am 100% sure that you would LOVE this granola. The best part? Love Grown granola is so real. They don’t use an artificial chocolate “flavoring”, just real chocolate chips! Surprisingly, this flavor was actually the least sweet of all.

Even my cat is loving Love Grown!
In addition to the flavors mentioned, they also offer an apple walnut flavor (which I am dying to try). To find out more about their products or to purchase some online, visit their website at www.lovegrownfoods.com.

The Operation Beautiful Award
Speaking of LOVE, Liz awarded me my first blogger award: The Operation Beautiful Award. Operation Beautiful is a website that aims to end negative self-talk and promote confidence and positivity. If you’re interested in reading more, check out the Operation Beautiful website. I love their mission and I’m excited to participate in this award and spread the word.
As a recipient of the award, I’m supposed to answer the questions below. I’ll be honest. As I was answering these questions about myself, I started to feel really awkward. I felt uncomfortable discussing what I like about myself rather than what I’d like to change or improve. Then it hit me: This is exactly what Operation Beautiful is trying to change. So here I go…
Smile (Post a picture)
Write 3 things you appreciate about your personality.
  • I’m goofy. When I’m with my friends and family, I’m basically a walking bag of laughter. Often, I don’t make sense. It makes life a lot more interesting.
  • I’m optimistic. I always try to see the positives in any situation, which seems to make life so much easier and more enjoyable.
  • I’m motivated. I’m extremely passionate and hardworking. This characteristic has helped me so much in life.

Write 3 things you like about your looks.

  • My eyes. Being half Asian and half Caucasian has given my eyes an interesting shape. My eyes make me feel unique!
  • My legs. They are strong and have allowed me to dance throughout the years. I grew extremely fast, and I used to be insecure about my height. Now, I’m proud of my long legs and the amazing things they’ve allowed me to do. These legs have climbed the Great Wall of China, danced on stage, and allowed me to swim and surf in the ocean.
  • My smile. I love to smile. It can convey so much emotion and positivity. Even when we get old and wrinkly, we will never lose our ability to :D.
Write about something you find beautiful in other people.
  • Compassion is beautiful. My heart smiles when I see someone do a kind gesture to help someone in need. I think this is a beautiful characteristic.
Award as many other people as you like and let them know!
I wish I could give this award to EVERYONE, but I’ll try my best to pick just a few. The following bloggers are people that I find to be inspiring and just as BEAUTIFUL on the inside as they are on the outside.
If you’ve missed my last few posts, be sure to check out Flashback Friday and How to Plan Meals.

Questions:
-Have you tried Love Grown granola? If not, which flavor would you want to try most?
